NEW YORK ( TheStreet) -- John Roberts, former co-anchor for CNN's American Morning, is joining News Corporation's ( NWSA) Fox News channel as a national correspondent.

"We are excited to welcome John to Fox News," Fox news editorial senior vice president Michael Clemente said in a statement. "His reputation as a skilled journalist with years of notable experience in the field will be a valuable addition to our news programming."

Roberts was a co-host on CNN for three years before announcing his departure last month. Before working at Time Warner's ( TWX) CNN, he spent 14 years with CBS ( CBS) News.

Roberts will be based in Atlanta. He is engaged to CNN anchor Kyra Phillips and the couple is currently expecting twins.
