Jacksonville Gas Price Rises 3 Cents

By Jacksonville Business Journal

Jacksonville gas prices rose 3 cents over the past week even though the price of crude oil closed 13 cents a barrel less than a week ago.

The average cost of a gallon of regular gas is $3.03 in Jacksonville, up from $3 a week ago; $3.10 in Florida, up from $3.06; and $3.07 nationally, up from $3.04.

⿿It⿿s a mixed bag right now as to whether or not oil will increase this week,⿝ said Jessica Brady, public relations manager of AAA Auto Club South. ⿿Although economists forecast a lag in demand, a currently weak U.S. dollar could drive the price of oil higher this week. In addition, investor optimism is high as forecasts project an increase in both heating oil and fuel demand for 2011. Retail gas prices will likely remain unchanged from last week and give a stable start to the new year.⿝
