The 42-year-old restructuring professional was hired by American International Group ( AIG - Get Report) in June 2009 to oversee its troubled mortgage-insurance business, United Guaranty Corp. The business had never been a huge component of AIG, representing less than 2% of general insurance revenue. It was on the chopping block, hemorrhaging money and had new claims piling up.
