NEW YORK ( TheStreet) -- TD Ameritrade ( AMTD) said shares of General Motors ( GM) was the top traded stock for the online broker on Thursday.

GM shares, which debuted on the New York Stock Exchange on Thursday after pricing its initial public offering a day earlier at the very high end of its range, accounted for 7.5% of the online broker's total trades for the day, according to an email from a TD Ameritrade spokesman.

The spokesman wouldn't elaborate on how the GM shares compared to other high volume stocks, such as Citigroup ( C), but did say the percentage was number one and "a good size," for the day.
