JACKSONVILLE, Fla. (AP) â¿¿ RailAmerica Inc. said on Wednesday that freight carloads rose 3.8 percent in October. The company, which runs short line and regional railroads, said it carried 72,826 freight carloads during the month. Shipments rose in six out of 12 commodity groups, especially metallic ores and metals, chemicals, and non-metallic minerals and products. Coal and motor vehicles both declined. RailAmerica shares rose 35 cents, or 3 percent, to close at $12.20.
