Warhol's Coke Bottle Sells for $35.4 Million


NEW YORK (TheStreet) -- A black-and-white Andy Warhol canvas image of a glass Coke bottle sold for $35.36 million at a Sotheby's auction on Tuesday.

According to reports, the price for the Andy Warhol artwork far exceeded Sotheby's expectations. Sotheby's thought the Coke painting would go for $25 million.

The sale on Tuesday took place at a successful Sotheby's contemporary and post-war art auction that sold more than 50 items, resulting in proceeds of about $222.4 million. That exceeded expectations of $214 million.
