The Laclede Group Inc. posted a profit of $4.7 million for its fiscal third quarter, down 32 percent from $6.9 million a year earlier, as warmer spring temperatures hurt sales.

Total operating revenue for the quarter ended June 30 increased 5 percent to $324.5 million from $309.9 million.

St. Louis-based Laclede Groupâ¿¿s (NYSE: LG) subsidiary, Laclede Gas Co., Missouriâ¿¿s largest natural gas distribution utility, reported a decrease in profit of $2.3 million compared to the same quarter last year, reflecting warmer weather, lower off-system sales and the benefit of a one-time property sale in 2009.

Douglas Yaeger is chairman, president and chief executive of The Laclede Group.
