NEW YORK ( TheStreet) -- CME ( CME) reported better-than expected second-quarter earnings as volume rose in every asset class.

For the second quarter, CME had net income of $271 million, or $4.11 a share, up 22% and 23% respectively, from the same period last year. Excluding one-off items, second-quarter earnings would have been $4.43 a share, a 33% increase from a year ago.

Second-quarter revenue was $814 million vs. $648 million the previous year, amid 31% average daily volume growth from the same quarter last year. Analysts on average were expecting earnings of $4.33 a share on revenue of $804.47 million.
