NEW YORK ( TheStreet) -- Motorola ( MOT) expects third-quarter earnings of 10 cents to 12 cents a share, compared with the consensus estimate of 10 cents a share, as the company reported better-than-expected second-quarter profits.

For the second quarter, Motorola reported earnings of $162 million, or 7 cents a share, compared with $26 million, or a penny a share, a year ago. Excluding items, the company had earnings of 9 cents a share vs. 3 cents a share the previous year.

Sales were $5.414 billion, slightly lower than $5.497 billion the previous year, as networks segment sales fell 2% and enterprise mobility solutions segment sales rose 10%. Analysts on average were expecting earnings of 8 cents a share on revenue of $5.19 billion.
