To make way for extensive improvements, Sacramento Regional Transit District will temporarily close the light-rail station at 12th and I streets starting Sunday through Sept. 6.

The improvements â¿¿ fresh paint, new trees and seating, a new raised boarding platform and shelters on the platform â¿¿ are part of the Alkali Flat/La Valentina and 12th & I Light Rail Station Improvement Project.

Work was recently completed at the nearby Alkali Flat/La Valentina light-rail station last August. The 12th and I station is expected to re-open Sept. 7.

Work at 12th and I will continue for 30 days.

While light-rail trains will operate through the station, passengers will not be able to board or exit the train. As an alternative, passengers can board or exit trains at the Alkali Flat/La Valentina light-rail station at 12th and D streets or the Cathedral Square light-rail station on K Street, between 10th and 11th and streets.

This is the second of a two-station project improvement grant funded through the Sacramento Area Council of Governments Community Design Program, which is administered by the California Transportation Commission and the California Department of Transportation.
