U.S. District Judge Susan Bolton has suspended the part of the law that required officers to check a person's immigration status, as well as the part that required immigrants to carry their papers at all times. These aspects of the law will be suspended until they are completely are resolved by the courts. The law was adopted in April and was meant to discourage illegal immigrants from entering or remaining in Arizona. The aspects of the law that Judge Bolton did not suspend are scheduled to go into effect on Thursday.
Porsche hybrid 918 Spyder is another hot search topic, following the announcement that Porsche ( PAH3) will produce a plug-in hybrid version of its sports car. The company was anxious to build the new model back in April, but needed at least 1,000 sales pledges to begin production. The new hybrid vehicle is expected to be one of the most expensive Porsches ever produced, in the range of its 2005 Carrera GT, which was priced at $440,000. Porsche also announced the production of the 911 GT3 R Hybrid, its first hybrid racecar, and the Cayenne S Hybrid, which will be able to reach speeds of almost 100 miles power hour on electric power alone.
"Volt" has been a hot search topic following an announcement by General Motors that the 2011 Chevrolet Volt will have a $41,000 price tag. GM said that the Volt is the industry's first electric vehicle with extended-range capability. "The Chevrolet Volt will be the best vehicle in its class... because it's in a class by itself," said Joel Ewanick, the vice president of U.S. marketing for General Motors.
Sprint Nextel ( S) is a hot search topic today following news that the company's second-quarter earnings report showed a gain in subscribers for the first time in three year. The company gained a net 111,000 subscribers compared with a loss of 257,000 in the same quarter last year, and it attributed this increase to improved customer service and retention. Even with these positive numbers, it had a loss of $760 million, or 25 cents a share, compared with a loss of $384 million, or 13 cents a share, in the same period a year ago. This morning Sprint Nextel shares rose 3.5% to $5.00, and are now trading around $4.85. Starcraft II: Wings of Liberty, a video game developed by Blizzard Entertainment, a subsidiary of Activision Blizzard ( ATVI), was released at 12:01 a.m. on July 27 at 3,000 GameStop ( GME) store locations. GameStop and Activision Blizzard share prices steadily increased leading up to the big release, but fell slightly during Tuesday trading. Wednesday, the game is still one of the most searched-for terms on the Internet. Starcraft II is the sequel to Starcraft a real-time strategy game released in 1998, which sold more than 11 million copies worldwide.
"Harley-Davidson 2011 Models" is a trending search topic on the Internet Wednesday following the debut of the company's three new motorcycle models for 2011 within the Sportster, Softail and Touring families. The new model prices range from the SuperLow, in the Sportster, family starting at $7,999; to the CVO Ultra Classic Electra Glide, in the Touring family, starting at $36,499. The motorcycle company recently announced that it has opened its first three dealerships in India and has plans to launch two more in 2010. Harley-Davidson shares are down today more than 1.5% a little below $28.
