Orion Energy Systems Inc. announced Monday that Michael Potts was named president and chief operating officer.

Potts, who most recently served as Orionâ¿¿s executive vice president, will take over the management of the day-to-day operations of the Manitowoc-based power technology company that designs, manufactures and deploys energy management systems.

He began his career in energy management with Kohler Co. in 1988 and was responsible for the companyâ¿¿s corporate energy management portfolio. He also was general manager for Kohlerâ¿¿s natural gas subsidiary. Potts joined Orion Energy Systems Inc. (AMEX: OESX) in 2001 as vice president of technical services. He later was named vice president of technical services and government affairs, and then executive vice president.

Potts is a recognized expert in energy issues and has often testified before state and federal regulatory bodies regarding energy-related topics, according to a company news release.

⿿This is a natural transition given Mike⿿s many years of strong leadership and innate understanding of our industry,⿝ said Orion chairman and CEO Neal Verfuerth.
