Gas prices in Georgia are up about 2 cents a gallon, thanks to Tropical Storm Bonnie.

Last week, the storm blew through the Gulf of Mexico. Although it weakened and caused no rig damage, crude oil closed higher Friday at $78.98 a barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange, AAA Auto Club South reported.

"As with any rise in the price of crude oil, retail gas prices will increase. Crude's price increase was minimal, so consumers shouldn't see too big a jump in retail prices this week," said Jessica Brady, AAA spokeswoman.

Gas prices in Georgia are now $2.59 on average, compared with $2.57 a week ago, $2.62 a month ago and $2.33 a year ago.

The national average price of unleaded regular gasoline is $2.73 per gallon, up 1 cent from last week.
