Gasoline prices in the Buffalo area are running about 5 percent above last summerâ¿¿s levels, according to a report issued Monday by the American Automobile Association.

The typical gallon of gasoline in Erie and Niagara counties is selling for $2.838 as of Monday morning. Thatâ¿¿s 5.2 percent above the local average of $2.699 on this same date a year ago.

AAA issues daily price updates for major metropolitan areas across the country, based on its analysis of credit-card purchases at self-service stations.
