NEW YORK ( TheStreet) -- Good Sunday afternoon, and welcome to another edition of Weekend Reading. First, a look back at the week that just finished, then a look forward to the week ahead and, lastly, a summary of articles and research papers worth reading. It was a good week for the stock market. Gains took the U.S. indices out of correction territory, even if they're still down almost 9% on the year. Looking ahead to next week, while weakness wouldn't surprise anyone, it certainly feels like stocks are set to climb higher, whether this week or in the weeks ahead. Fears of a double-dip have dissipated somewhat, and with the European banks tests behind us, some of the macroeconomic fears are tailing off, too. Turning to economic indicators, next week will be busy. We have the Federal Reserve's Beige Book of economic conditions, new-home sales, the Case-Shiller home price index, June durable goods orders, weekly initial jobless gains and second-quarter gross domestic product. As for earnings, we will see reports from Aetna ( AET), Broadcom ( BRCM), Plum Creek Timber ( PCL), Akamai ( AKAM), Amgen ( AMGN), Southwest Airlines ( LUV), Moody's ( MCO) and Merck ( MRK). Lastly, here are some articles and papers worth reading: Editor's note: To access some of these stories, registration or a subscription may be required.
