Westar Energy Inc. is taking bids to develop as much as 200 megawatts of renewable energy through a power purchase agreement.

The Topeka-based utility, which serves portions of western Johnson County, is taking bids until Sept. 2 and will announce its selection by yearâ¿¿s end.

Westarâ¿¿s request for proposals will offer up space on the Ironwood Wind Farm in southwest Kansas, which Westar obtained earlier this year.

Westar is asking that wind power proposals meet Kansas Energy Council guidelines and that they address potential environmental effects.
