Apple Delays White iPhone Again

CUPERTINO, Calif. ( TheStreet) -- Apple ( AAPL) has pushed back the launch of its white iPhone for a second time, citing ongoing manufacturing challenges.

In a short statement released before market open, Apple explained that it has been forced to further delay the phone's availability.

"White models of Apple's new iPhone 4 have continued to be more challenging to manufacture than we originally expected," it said. "As a result, they will not be available until later this year."

Manufacturing issues already forced Apple to delay availability of the white iPhone once. Last month, a day before the black version of the new phone was due to hit stores, Apple revealed the white iPhone would not be available until the second half of July.

Apple devotees on Twitter were quick to voice their dismay about the latest holdup for the white iPhone.

"White iPhone 4 delayed until later this year. 'Noooooooo!'," wrote one. "DISAPPOINTED with Apple & Steve Jobs... NO WHITE iPhone at end of July, instead it's coming out end of this year," added another.

Apple has not revealed specific details of its white iPhone manufacturing problems. The company, of course, has been wrestling with much-publicized antenna problems on the new iPhone that the company is expected to fix by September.

Last week Apple supremo Steve Jobs offered free bumpers and refunds to unhappy customers, but was vague on the subject of an internal antenna fix, which he depicted as an industry-wide problem.

According to Rodman Renshaw analyst Ashok Kumar, however, Apple has instituted an internal fix to help insulate iPhone 4 antennas from signal interference.

Apple, which posted strong third-quarter results earlier this week, has nonetheless sold more than 3 million of the new iPhone, which it is touting as its most successful launch ever.
