David Murfin, president of Murfin Drilling Co. Inc. and chairman and CEO of Murfin Inc. in Wichita, has been named chairman of the National Stripper Well Association Executive Board of Directors.

The nonprofit association represents producers and operators of marginally economic crude oil and natural gas wells in the United States.

A stripper, or marginal, well is one that produces just above the economically viable level.

⿿We are so pleased to have Dave serve the National Stripper Well Association membership in this capacity,⿝ Dewey Bartlett Jr., Tulsa mayor and immediate past-chairman for NSWA, said in a news release. ⿿Dave is passionate about the issues facing the ⿿Mom and Pop⿿ oil and natural gas producers, and we know that he will ensure NSWA⿿s voice is heard and interests represented in Washington, D.C. ⿿ as well as in the 35 states where stripper and marginal wells are actively producing resources for our country.⿝

Murfin Drilling Co. opened for business in 1926, and Murfin said he plans to carry that legacy forward with NSWA.

⿿I am honored to represent the National Stripper Well Association membership in this role,⿝ Murfin said. ⿿Stripper (or marginal wells) have been an important part of my family⿿s life for 84 years now. I will do everything that I can to fight for the survival of the small business men and women of our nation⿿s critical oil and natural gas industry.⿝
