RMT Inc., a renewable energy services unit of Alliant Energy Corp. of Madison, has been selected to provide engineering and construction of a wind farm on the island of Oahu in Hawaii.

Madison-based RMT said construction has commenced on the 30-megawatt project, which is expected to be complete by the end of this year. The system will consist of 12 wind turbines, each with 2.5-megawatt capacity, that can generate up to 80,000 megawatt hours annually, according to First Wind.

RMT was selected by First Wind, an independent wind energy company based in Boston. First Wind is developing the Kahuku Wind energy facility on Oahu, which will be one of the state's largest wind projects. The project is expected to be backed by a $117 million loan guarantee from the federal government.

Alliant Energy (NYSE: LNT) is an energy services provider with regulated utilities in Wisconsin and Iowa.
