KBR Inc. has been tapped to help design and build a wastewater treatment plant in Melbourne, Australia.

Houston-based KBR (NYSE:KBR) will work on the $330 million upgrade project as part of an the Eastern Tertiary Alliance, a consortium of several organizations.

The plant for Melbourne Water currently treats about 40 percent of Melbourneâ¿¿s sewage and is Australiaâ¿¿s largest activated sludge plant.

KBR will provide detailed engineering design and documentation, environmental services, and technical advice during construction and commissioning of the facility, which aims to treat an average of 380 megalitres per day, peaking at around 700 megalitres.

The project is slated for completion in 2012.

Shares of KBR (NYSE: KBR) closed up 4.2 percent at $22.16 on Tuesday.
