Bechtel Corp. will work with Babcock & Wilcox Nuclear Energy Inc. to design and sell nuclear reactors smaller than those typically on the market.

These 125-megawatt modular reactors should be cheaper and easier to make and move around, the companies said Wednesday.

Lynchburg, Va.-based Babcock & Wilcox and San Francisco⿿s Bechtel called their joint program ⿿Generation mPower.⿝

Bechtel will build the power stations after Babcock & Wilcox designs them and gets regulatory approval for the system.

Under this deal, the first of the new reactors could be built in a decade, if regulators OK the design.
