Salt River Project was honored for its top customer service in the Western U.S. by J.D. Power and Associates this week.

The study, which measures efforts across a number of subjects among large utilities, included Arizona Public Service at fourth.

Both utilities raised their score from 2009, with SRP posting 708 points out of a possible 1,000 and APS having a score of 661. The average score was 648.

SRP has taken the top spot 11 out of the past 12 years in the annual survey among utilities from Arizona, California, Colorado, Idaho, Montana, Nevada, New Mexico, Oregon, Utah, Washington and Wyoming.

APS showed some improvement in its ranking, jumping up one spot from fifth last year and picking up 15 points.
