Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute is receiving $2.04 million from the U.S. Department of Energy to develop future nuclear technology.

The money will support two research projects at Rensselaer that involve nuclear fuel and developing future nuclear reactors. The projects involve performance and safety issues associated with future reactor designs. The funds will be used to improve laboratory space and provide scholarships in nuclear engineering.

⿿This is good news for our nuclear program, and further evidence that we⿿re on the leading edge of nuclear research and education,⿝ said Timothy Wei, a professor and head of the department of mechanical, aerospace and nuclear engineering. He said the program has grown in student enrollment, faculty and research in the past five years.
