NEW YORK ( TheStreet) -- Dan Gilbert, the Cleveland Cavaliers' majority owner, had more than a little to say about LeBron James' decision to join NBA superstars Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh on the Miami Heat for the upcoming 2010-2011 NBA season.
LeBron Announcing His Decision
In response to James' prime-time announcement on ESPN last night, Gilbert wrote an open letter to fans. The letter expressed Gilbert's "bitter disappointment" not only in James' decision to leave his hometown team, but in the way he made his announcement.
Gilbert said that James announced his decision with a "narcissistic, self-promotional build-up." He called the choice to "desert" the Cleveland Cavaliers a "cowardly betrayal," and guaranteed that the Cavaliers will "win an NBA championship before the self-titled former 'king' wins one." Gilbert went on to call James' choice a "shameful display of selfishness and betrayal," a "heartless and callous action" and a "shocking act of disloyalty." -- Reported by Theresa McCabe in Boston.
