Ford, Chrysler Recall 2010 Cars

NEW YORK ( TheStreet) -- Ford ( F) and Chrysler are recalling tens of thousands of 2010-model year vehicles.

The government announced today that Ford is recalling 33,728 2010 model-year Transit Connect vehicles picture above to replace problematic vehicle pushpins that could lead to increased risk of passenger injury.

Meanwhile, Chrysler is recalling roughly 22,000 SUVs and trucks to repair brake tubes that could lead to the loss of brake fluid and reduced braking performance -- increasing the risk of a crash.

The Chrysler vehicles being recalled are the Dodge Nitro 2010, Dodge Ram 2010 pictured above, Jeep Liberty 2010 pictured on following page and Jeep Wrangler 2010.

Ford's recall should start in late July, while Chrysler's should begin in August.

Ford owners can contact Ford at 1-866-436-7332 about the recall and inquire about the Chrysler recall at the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's vehicle safety hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or 1-800-424-9153.

Ford stock has inched up 0.9% to $10.71 Friday morning. Meanwhile, Toyota ( TM) American Depository Receipts have fallen 0.3% to $70.97.

The recalls have come after Toyota announces more global recalls last week.

There have been a spate of vehicle recalls in 2010 as the NHTSA comes under immense pressure --- following widespread criticism of the agency for not coming down hard enough and earlier enough on Toyota for its safety problems -- to pressure automakers to address vehicle problems with recalls rather than more subtler approaches.
