A new statewide task force will assist the New Mexico Renewable Energy Transmission Authority (RETA) in creating a blueprint for a clean energy transmission system.

Energy, Minerals and Natural Resources Secretary Jon Goldstein said the new system will help bring renewable energy generation to markets in New Mexico and throughout the West.

⿿New Mexico⿿s abundant sunshine and windy plains ⿿ as well as our proximity to fast-growing Western energy markets ⿿ puts us in a sweet spot of renewable energy growth,⿝ Goldstein said in a news release. ⿿RETA is helping to create the system that will carry this clean energy to market.⿝

EMNRD Deputy Secretary Jim Noel will chair the new task force, which will include representatives from utilities and electric cooperatives that operate in New Mexico, environmental organizations, and state and federal public officials.

⿿New Mexico is already emerging as a major part of our nation⿿s clean energy future,⿝ Noel said. ⿿This group will help design a transmission system plan to further augment renewable energy growth.⿝

The state Legislature created RETA in 2007 to plan and finance transmission lines to promote clean energy development in New Mexico.
