Austin-San Marcos area fuel prices dropped 2 cents per gallon this week, hitting about $2.58 per gallon, according to AAA Texas.

The price was unchanged last week after increasing 4 cents to $2.60 the week of June 25. Prior to that week, gasoline prices had fallen 20 cents over a month and a half. Prices this week are still about 11 cents more than the same week in 2009.

Statewide, the average price per gallon fell 4 cents to $2.57 per gallon. Nationally, drivers are paying about $2.72 a gallon, down 3 cents.

The Ft. Worth/Arlington region experienced the biggest price drop week-to-week, falling about 6 cents, while Houston had the least expensive gas at about $2.53 per gallon.
