Gas prices for Birmingham drivers have fallen 5.3 cents per gallon in the past week, averaging $2.53 per gallon Tuesday afternoon, according to a release from BirminghamGasPrices.com.

With the change, gas prices are 2.2 cents per gallon lower than this time in June, but 9.5 cents per gallon higher than this time last year.

Nationally, the average has held steady at $2.72 per gallon since last month. As a whole, gas is 13.9 cents higher than a year ago this time.
