Shigenori Shiga has been named chairman of Westinghouse Electric Co.'s Board of Directors, replacing the outgoing Steve Tritch, the company said Friday.

Tritch retired as chairman July 1. He stepped down as Westinghouse's president and CEO in July 2008.

Since 2006 Shiga has been senior vice president and chief coordination officer for Westinghouse and executive vice president of Toshiba Corp.â¿¿s power systems company. Westinghouse is a group company of Toshiba Corp.

⿿As chairman, Shigenori Shiga will bring balance and provide stability within our senior management team, and further reinforce our ability to act in concert with Toshiba,⿝ said Westinghouse President and CEO Aris S. Candris in a written statement. ⿿His appointment will also allow my entire staff to further concentrate on growing our business and better meeting our commitments to customer success, technology development, quality, safety and global industry leadership.⿝

In addition to naming a new chairman, Westinghouse in June reorganized executives creating three regional presidents. Jim Ferland was most recently named president of the Americas region, joining Jack Allen president of the Asia region and Anders Jackson president of the European region.
