Retail gasoline prices are holding steady as drivers throughout Texas and throughout the country gear up for the extended July 4th weekend.

The average price of gas in San Antonio is $2.58 a gallon, unchanged from last week, according to the AAA Texas Weekend Gas Watch.

The state and national average, $2.61 and $2.75 respectively, also didnâ¿¿t budge from last week.

Part of the reason why fuel prices were stable this week is because of the drop-off in the commodity price for crude oil. Oil started the week trading at $75 a barrel and as of Thursday, it trading slightly above $72 a barrel.

Also, refineries along the Texas and Louisiana Gulf Coast were not impacted by Tropical Storm Alex as originally feared once the storms headed south of Brownsville, Texas.

Despite the soggy weather, the number of Texans taking vacations this Independence Day is projected to increase 14.4 percent from 2009.

Nationwide, AAA is projecting 34.9 million travelers will take a vacation on the July 4th weekend. This is up 17.1 percent from 2009.
