The Atlanta Falcons and Symetra Financial announced today a multi-year partnership to sponsor Symetra Heroes in the Classroom, a community program recognizing Georgia teachers for outstanding leadership and instructional skills.

Sixteen K-12 teachers across the state will be named a Symetra Hero in the Classroom during the 2010 NFL season. Teachers will be recognized in their schools at surprise presentations where they will receive a $1,000 donation for classroom books and supplies. In addition, they will be honored during live, on-field presentations at Falcons home games.

The winners will be selected based on their ability to balance the core curriculum with students’ individual needs; build trust among students, parents and the community; and invest in their students’ long-term success.

“Symetra is a strong supporter of education initiatives, which is why we donate time and money to building greater opportunities for students and teachers,” says Randy Talbot, president and CEO of Symetra Financial. “The Atlanta Falcons have a long history and passion for supporting communities across the state of Georgia, and we are excited to partner with them on this rewarding program.”

“Teachers play such a vital role, but often do not receive the recognition they deserve,” says Rich McKay, president of the Atlanta Falcons. “We are excited to recognize individuals that are making a commitment to bettering our communities through education. We look forward to working with Symetra to honor exceptional educators who are helping Georgia students reach their full potential.”
