Saba (NASDAQ:SABA), the premier people management software and services provider, today announced that the U.S. Army is testing a learning technology solution from Saba for mobile and low-bandwidth connectivity. With over 800,000 active learners using Saba Learning, the U.S. Army tasked Saba to advance the delivery and usability of its training solutions for deployed soldiers and for those in transport vehicles. Plans are to go-live with this solution later in the year.

News Facts
  • The U.S. Army uses Saba's solutions: Saba Learning and Saba Centra as part of The Army Learning Management System (ALMS). Since 2008, these two solutions have enabled The U.S. Army's Distributed Learning System (DLS) to serve more than 2 million Army personnel stationed around the world with standardized e-learning and web conferencing.
  • The Saba Learning mobile solution for the U.S. Army provides unique technology that corrects for choppy and low-bandwidth Internet connections and allows for the preservation of a soldier's progress record in their online learning, which otherwise can be jeopardized by poor Internet service.
  • Saba's technology backfills any "missed" data when a learner is unintentionally disconnected and also automatically saves progress locally as well, alleviating a previous pitfall of online learning and maximizing each soldier's learning time.
  • The Saba Learning mobile solution has been successfully tested in temporary training sites and even in transport vehicles such as tanks.

Quote

“The U.S. Army truly is one of the most learning-oriented organizations in the world; soldiers are always training and advancing their knowledge and skills,” said Jim Gill, vice president, public sector at Saba. “They can't afford downtime as a result of low bandwidth in remote areas such as their current deployments in Afghanistan or Iraq, and we're pleased to be collaborating with them on a robust, innovative solution to this challenge.”
