MISSISSAUGA, Ontario ( TheStreet) -- Wal-Mart ( WMT) plans on opening 35 to 40 super-center stores in Canada this year, creating up to 6,500 new jobs.

The expansion will cost the discounter up to $500 million, and will bring Wal-Mart's total store count in Canada to 325.
