PARK CITY, Utah (AP) ¿ Nutraceutical International Corp., a manufacturer and distributor of nutritional supplements and other natural products, said Thursday fiscal 2009 fourth-quarter profit doubled on a boost in sales and lower costs.

For the quarter ended Sept. 30, net income rose to $3.2 million, or 29 cents per share, from $1.5 million, or 14 cents per share, in the prior-year period. Sales rose 1 percent to $41.4 million from $40.9 million

Meanwhile, the company's selling, general, and administrative costs fell 5 percent to $15.6 million. Also, the prior-year period included a $2.9 million impairment charge.

For the full year, the company lost $14 million, or $1.29 per share, compared with profit of $11.9 million, or $1.07, a year earlier. Sales fell to $162.3 million from $166.9 million.

Shares of Nutraceutical International rose 48 cents, or 4.1 percent, to $12.08 in morning trading. The stock has traded between $5.59 and $12.99 over the last 52 weeks.
