Shares of casino companies were lower on Wednesday afternoon.

Las Vegas Sands ( LVS) shares were down 4.7% to $4.91. The company announced that Jason N. Ader would join the board.

Ader, the founder and chief executive of investment management company Hayground Cove Asset Management, joins the board a month after director James Purcell stepped down over a disagreement with the company about the departure of former President and Chief Operating Officer William Weidner.

Elsewhere, shares of Boyd Gaming ( BYD) were down 8.1% to $5.77.

MGM Mirage ( MGM) shares were down 4.4% to $6.31.

Melco Entertainment ( MPEL) was down 8.5% to $4.20.

Ameristar Casinos ( ASCA) was down 3.3% to $12.76.

Penn National Gaming ( PENN) was down 1.9% to $26.57.

Wynn Entertainment ( WYNN) was lower by 1.1% to $32.04.
