SLM Corp.'s ( SLM) Salle Mae said Monday that it will shift overseas operations to the U.S., creating 2,000 jobs domestically.

The government-backed student lender will hire call center, information technology and other back-office operations support staffers over the next 18 months. The jobs will be offered at various locations across the country, including Florida, Indiana, Pennsylvania, Texas and Delaware.

SLM shares were up 4.6% $5.59 in morning trading.
