Wal-Mart ( WMT), the world's No. 1 retailer, said same-store sales in February rose 5.1%, excluding fuel, and rose 4.5% when fuel is included.

Total net sales in the month rose 2.8% to $30.02 billion.

Analysts surveyed by Thomson Reuters expected Wal-Mart to report a same-store sales increase of 2.4%.

Wal-Mart said U.S. same-store sales in February rose 5%, driven largely by an acceleration of traffic. Average ticket also increased, the retailer said in a press release Thursday.
