Gulf Air has ordered 16 of Boeing's ( BA) new 787 Dreamliners, according to published media reports.

The Bahrain-based airline also has an option to purchase eight more of the next-generation planes, according to a Gulf Air spokesman quoted in an AP report. He said the 16-plane order was worth $4 billion at list prices, but that the options would bring the total value to $6 billion. Airlines rarely pay list prices for new planes.

The spokesman also said Gulf Air was in talks with Boeing rival Airbus about purchasing A320 narrow-body planes, according to the report. In November, the airline said it was interested in ordering as many as 35 new planes to replace its fleet, the report added.

Boeing shares finished Friday down $1.84 at $80.52.
