The energy complex was split late Thursday, with oil prices showing a decline while natural gas and gasoline futures posted gains. Near-month crude was recently lower by 64 cents at $63.04 a barrel in New York. Also weaker was heating oil, which ticked down a penny at $1.84 a gallon. Natural gas was the strongest of the group, rising 13 cents to $7.86 per million British thermal units. Reformulated gasoline was tacking on 1 cent to $2.24 a gallon. Among equities, Royal Dutch Shell ( RDS.A - Get Report) was higher after its first-quarter income attributable to shareholders rose 6% year over year to $7.28 billion. The stock was gaining 1.4% to $71.65. Noble Energy's ( NBL - Get Report) quarterly earnings edged lower compared with last year, but revenue advanced to $742.5 million from $712 million. Shares of Noble gave back 0.3% at $60.76. Meanwhile, Tesoro ( TSO) slumped 6.7% to $115.49 after its quarterly profits of $1.67 a share fell well short of the Thomson Financial consensus target of $1.86.
