BOMBAY -- Bombay stocks dropped modestly Friday, closing out a strong week on a down note.

The BSE Sensex index dropped 61.36 to close at 10,680.23. Still, the index advanced 5.9% on the week, which saw gains in each of its first four trading sessions.

Gainers Friday were SBI, up 4.4%, Dr. Reddy's Lab ( RDY), up 2.6%, and ACC, up 2.2%.

Losers included Bharti Airtel and Bajaj Auto, each down 2.8%, and Hindalco, down 2%.

MTNL ( MTE) fell 2.9% after it reported a 17.1% fall in its earnings for the first quarter.

SAIL gained 2.4% after the steel giant announced a 23% rise in its first-quarter earnings.
