Pentair ( PNR), a diversified industrial manufacturing company, said its second-quarter earnings rose 11.8% from a year-ago period, on strong business from its technical products group. The company earned $68.6 million, or 67 cents a share, in the quarter, compared with $61.4 million, or 60 cents a share, a year ago. Analysts were expecting the company to earn 62 cents a share. Second-quarter revenue rose 9.3% from a year ago period to $862 million, helped by good growth in residential, commercial and municipal pump markets. Analysts were expecting a revenue of $863.5 million in the most recent quarter. The company expects to earn 46 cents a share to 50 cents a share in the third quarter and reiterated its earnings guidance of $2.08 a share to $2.18 a share for the full year. Analysts are expecting earnings of 54 cents a share in the third quarter and $2.10 a share in the full year. By segment, second-quarter revenue from the water group was up 3.4% from a year-ago period to $605.5 million and operating income fell 8.7% to $84.2 million. Revenue from the technical products group rose 26.4% to $256.5 million and operating income increased 51% to $39.7 million.
