XM Satellite Radio ( XMSR) named telecom-industry executive Nate Davis to the newly created position of president and chief operating officer at the company.Davis has held senior management roles at XO Communications, serving as president and COO from late 1999 through early 2003, Nextel and MCI. At Nextel, Davis was the executive vice president of all technical operations, which included engineering, procurement and IT. He has been a member of the satellite radio company's board since October 1999. Additionally, he previously worked at AT&T ( T) earlier in his career. He most recently served as an executive at the venture capital firm Columbia Capital. Shares of XM were gaining 50 cents, or 4.5%, to $11.70 in premarket trading Monday.
