Semiconductor exchange-traded funds were hit Friday after disappointments from Advanced Micro Devices ( AMD) Broadcom ( BRCM). AMD fell more than 13% after the company posted second-quarter results that were below expectations. Broadcom, another holding in the ETF, slid 12% after the chip company delayed the release of its second-quarter earnings because of a review into its stock-options practices. Shares of the iShares Goldman Sachs Semiconductor ( IGW) recently were trading down $2.14, or 4% to $50.97. The PowerShares Dynamic Semiconductors ( PSI) ETF shed 71 cents, or 4.6% to $14.79. Shares of the iShares Dow Jones U.S. Energy ( IYE) ETF slid 1% after Halliburton ( HAL) and other energy names moved lower. Halliburton was down nearly 8% after the oil-field services supplier posted second-quarter earnings that were a penny shy of Wall Street's expectation. Anadarko Petroleum ( APC) was lower by $1.07, or 2%, to $41.87. The energy ETF was recently trading down 93 cents to $93.64. The Oil Services HOLDRs ( OIH) ETF dropped $3.30, or 2%, to $131. Shares of the iShares Dow Jones U.S. Technology ( IYW) ETF dropped 1.5% after an earnings warning from its second-largest holding, Dell ( DELL). The computer maker projected earnings of 21 cents and 23 cents a share, well short of analysts' forecast of 32 cents. Dell shares were down $2.22, or 10%, to $19.88. The technology ETF dropped 67 cents, or 1.5%, to $43.88. Gold futures sent ETFs that follow the commodity lower. Gold was recently trading down $12.30 to $619.50 an ounce. Shares of the iShares Comex Gold Trust ( IAU) fell more than 1% to $61.74. The streetTracks Gold Shares ( GLD) slid 92 cents to $61.62.
