Microsoft to Alter Financial Reporting

Microsoft ( MSFT) is tweaking its financial reporting structure to bring it in line with organizational changes already in place, the company reported late Monday.

The change will not affect the company's fourth-quarter financial report, due after Thursday's closing bell.

Beginning in the current, or first, quarter of fiscal 2007, the software giant will report its financial performance based on five operating segments: Client, Server and Tools, Online Services Group, Microsoft Business Division and Microsoft Entertainment and Devices Division.

Guidance for 2007 will be reported under the new alignment, the company said.
