HDFC Bank's ( HDB) first-quarter profit rose 30.4% from a year ago.

The bank earned 2.39 billion rupees ($52 million), or Rs. 7.6 a share, compared with Rs.1.84 billion, or Rs. 5.9 a share, in the corresponding period last year.

Total income rose 60.2% to Rs. 18.55 billion and net interest income rose 56.1% to Rs. 8.18 billion.

The bank's capital adequacy ratio was at 11.8% as of June 30.

Net non-performing assets stood at 0.4% of advances as of June 30.

The bank's branch network is spread in 535 outlets in 228 cities as against 495 outlets in 217 cities in June 2005.
