The Andersons ( ANDE) filed for an air permit for a potential ethanol plant in Greenville, Ohio. The company has an option to purchase land in an industrial park in the southwestern Ohio community. Pending board approval, the Maumee, Ohio, grain processor could build a plant that would produce 110 million gallons of ethanol annually and would be the first fuel ethanol production plant in Ohio. The facility could be operational as soon as the first quarter of 2008. "We are working with the city and state regulatory agencies to obtain approval to pursue construction on a 'greenfield' site in Greenville," says Neill McKinstray, The Andersons' vice president and general manager for ethanol, in a postclose press release. "This location is just one of several sites being considered by the company." The news came at the end of a day in which The Andersons rose 13% on news of an ethanol joint venture with Marathon Oil ( MRO). On Monday, The Andersons rose $5.23 to $45.83.
