Bombay stocks closed higher Friday. The BSE Sensex rose 110 to 10,950. Hindalco surged 5.7% on the back of buoyant aluminium prices. The major gainers on the BSE Sensex were ITC, up 4.1%, and Tata Power, up 3.4%. The other gainers were Cipla, Ranbaxy and Larsen & Toubro. Major losers included Bhel, down 1.6%, HDFC Bank, down 0.8%, and Dr Reddy's, down 0.6%. Also falling was Infosys ( INFY). Auto giant Mahindra & Mahindra gained 0.6% on plans to invest in expansion into South Africa and Europe. Ranbaxy Laboratories gained 2.4% after launching an asthma medicine. State Bank of India gained 0.8% after the union cabinet approved legislation that will allow investors to buy more shares in subsidiaries. Aventis Pharma declined 3.1% after 2005 earnings slipped.
