Bombay stocks closed higher Thursday.

The BSE Sensex rose 77 to 10,878.74.

The major gainers on the BSE Sensex were RIL, up 3.6%, Tata Motors ( TTM), up 2.8%, and Tata Power, also up 2.8%.

Auto stocks rose, with Hero Honda rising by 1.2% and Maruti up 1.6%. Cement outfits rose too, with Grasim up 1.8%, Gujarat Ambuja up 1.5% and ACC up 0.5%.

The major losers on the BSE Sensex were Ranbaxy, which fell 1.6%, NTPC, down 1.4%, and L&T, down 1.4%.

Gujarat NRE gained 3% on reports that the merger of Gujarat NRE Coke and its cash-rich sister concern FCGL Industries would help the two companies generate more cash flow and reserves to increase production at their coalfields in Australia.

Aurobindo Pharma was up 4.5% on the news that the pharma company received approval from FDA for Lisinopril and Hydrochlorothiazide tablets, 10 / 12.5 mg, 20 / 12.5 mg, and 20 / 25 mg.

Kotak Mahindra Bank shot up 7.2% on reports that the company will buy out the 25% stake held by Goldman Sachs in two of its subsidaries.
