McDonald's ( MCD) continues to wring sales gains out of its restaurants.

The company said overall same-store sales rose 4.7% in February from a year ago, the 34th straight positive monthly result. McDonald's said the number reflected improvement across all of its geographic segments, aided by menu enhancements.

"During February, we continued to satisfy our U.S. customers' appetite for choice and variety with an appealing new menu addition -- the Spicy Premium Chicken Sandwich," it said. "Our winning line-up of Premium Chicken Sandwiches, popular breakfast menu options and extended hours delivered a solid 3.6% increase in comparable sales, despite harsh weather in certain parts of the country."

In the U.S., McDonald's comparable-store sales rose 9.7% in January; 4.4% in December; 4.5% in November; 3% in October; and 2.7% in September.

In Europe, comps rose 5.4% from a year ago, driven primarily by strong results in France and Germany. "In addition, the U.K.'s ongoing emphasis on brand-building initiatives generated positive comparable sales in February. All three markets added greater variety and excitement to the menu by featuring premium burgers and specialty promotional menu options," the company said.
