Bombay stocks closed lower Friday, a day after hitting a record. The BSE Sensex dropped 31 points to 10,595. Major gainers on the BSE Sensex were Jindal Steel, up 8%, Tata Motors ( TTM), up 4.7%, Bharti Tele, up 3%, and carmaker Maruti, up 2.7%. Power stocks rose. Tata Power gained 2.1% and Reliance Energy added 2%. Aegis Logistics gained 2.7% on reports that it has acquired 687,500 shares of Sealord Containers. Hindustan Zinc shot up 10% after it raised prices. The major losers on the BSE Sensex housing finance company HDFC, down 2.8%, and engineering and construction major Larsen & Tubro, down 2.6%.
